People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said, “He even makes the deaf hear & the mute speak.” [Mark 7:37]
They were amazed now when Jesus was curing them. Where was their wonder when He was saving their souls? It just shows how much we value earthly things: our health, our wealth, our happiness, our status. But is that what is really imporant?
Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people & heal them. & he was amazed at their lack of faith. [Mark 6:4-6]
I think this passage shows Christ’s view on this matter. It says that he couldn’t do ANY miracles. But he did heal a few sick people. Don’t we see those as miracles? Does this show that Jesus didn’t even consider healing of the sick miracles? No, I don’t think so. But does it show that He is really concerned with saving souls. He wants people to come to know Him; to be able to live eternally with Him; to know that they are His Father’s beloved child.
So, what am I going to think is important? Serving physical needs? Of course that is important to me! I want to be the hands of Jesus. But maybe this realization will give me a little bit of an extra push to be intentional with my conversations.
